Osama bin Laden killed in Pakistan

US president Barack Obama said bin Laden, the most-wanted fugitive on the US list, has been killed on Sunday in a US operation in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, about 150km north of Islamabad.

“Tonight, I can report to the people of the United States and the world, the United States had carried an operation that has killed Osama Bin Laden, a terrorist responsible for killing thousands of innocent people,” Obama said in a statement.

According to a study released by Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, “the terrorist threat posed by radicalized Muslim-Americans has been exaggerated.”

Lahore gets its first 3D cinema

A good news for 3D cinema screen lovers resonates around city Lahore as the Cinestar in Township has acquired its first ever 3D cinema.

Lahore city’s first 3D cinema is just inaugurated yesterday. A red carpet event was held by owners Ali Chaudhry and Faraz Chaudhry to showcase Hollywood film, Avatar. They said that a large amount of money has been served to bring this 3D latest technology for which the entire cinema has to be renovated as well. (More …)

Rachid Nekkaz – Rich Muslim vows to pay all French burka fines

On the eve of tomorrow’s Bastille Day celebrations, there is more revolution in the air in France and this time the ringleader is a flamboyant Muslim businessman called Rachid Nekkaz. The 38-year-old property developer is incensed that France has moved one step closer to banning the burka, with women caught wearing the full veil in public liable to a €150 fine and anyone convicted of forcing a woman to cover up facing a fine of up to €30,000 and a year in prison. Google offered up their annual April Fools prank at the stroke of midnight, and, per usual, you’d have to be pretty gullible to fall for it. This year’s is absurd suggestion? Gmail Motion.

Facebook Removed Palestinians Intifada page on Israel order

A month after the launch of a Facebook group calling for a third Intifada, Minister of Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein sent a letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg Wednesday, demanding that the page calling a Palestinian uprising be shut down immediately.

Lahore gets rare hailstorm Snowfall in Lahore

The storm struck the city at 4.45pm, concentrating its intensity downtown and in areas around Gulberg. Hailstones the size of small strawberries soon carpeted streets and rooftops.

People watched the freak turn of weather with a pleasant surprise. At some places some people panicked and started giving “azans”.

A traffic gridlock followed the hailstorm, making driving a misery on roads awash with a hail of stones. (More …)

Valentine’s Day and Islam

First of all, we’d like to shed light on the origin of this festival, known as “Valentine Day” or “Festival of Love”:

The Festival of Love was one of the festivals of the pagan Romans, when paganism was the prevalent religion of the Romans more than seventeen centuries ago. In the pagan Roman concept, it was an expression of “spiritual love”.
