Facebook today announced a revamped profile called the Timeline at its annual F8 conference. The new Timeline takes the place of your profile and provides a realtime stream of everything you’ve done, all the way back to your ‘birth’.

“This is the heart of the Facebook experience, completely rethought from the ground up. We’re calling it ‘Timeline,” said Zuckerberg, “Timeline is the story of your life: all your stories, all your apps and a new way to express who you are.”

The timeline is a realtime stream that shows you all of the events, images and posts that are important to you, while hiding the items that it feels are not important. A sort of ‘automatic autobiography’.

The Timeline lays out everything that you’ve shared from apps and maps to photos and status messages. There is also a large, wide new header that allows you to show off an image that you choose as a welcome mat of sorts for visitors to your profile. Your avatar is also still present.

Zuckerberg also says that you have complete control over what is on the Timeline, where it displays and who can see it. There is a heavy emphasis on privacy with this new version of the profile.

If you missed an important event in your Timeline, you can go back and insert it at the appropriate point.

Many of the new apps that work with Timeline are available today, but Timeline itself won’t be rolling out for a few weeks.

Check out Timeline official page Click here

There are a massive amount of changes coming to Facebook today so stay tuned. We’ll be covering them extensively.

How to Activate Video Chat:
To activate video chat on Facebook, visit http://facebook.com/videocalling and click Get Started. Here you need to download a simple application and install it. You can do that by clicking Setup.

Once you are done with this one time setup, you will see a big sidebar containing the person you mostly interact with – added with a video camera icon, simply click on it to start the video conversation. But note that the person you are trying to call should also go through the above mentioned procedure just once.

Whenever someone tries to call you, you will hear a bell first and then notification will come to accept or reject the video call.

Another important feature that Facebook has integrated is, send video messages. So if someone you are trying to call is unavailable, simply record your message and send it to other person as a video.

Call your friends right from Facebook
Just click the call button at the top of your friend’s profile or chat window — no need to launch new software. No answer? Leave a video message.

‘Power of Social Media’ is a vastly discussed topic which, in my opinion, needs no more explanation at the moment.

In Pakistan where ‘social media’ has already breached enough through our veins, we usually mean Facebook by social media. Facebook, in no doubt, is providing an unmatched platform, at the moment, to the individuals as well as organizations.

Be it an advertising campaign or awareness movement, Facebook provides you free of cost place to gather people.

Earlier we have seen people going on roads against the current government, which had no positive outcomes considering one important fact that dire awareness is needed.

Once again we are going to witness another protest against the government, specifically against President Asif Ali Zardari – and the venue is Facebook.

But the bad thing is that the line has just been crossed – instead of protesting – Facebook users have started abusing, which is immoral, unethical and not acceptable to anyone.

We are not siding any political party or thoughts here and this is not a promotional post for the event but to praise the idea and to discourage the approach.

> So far, around 26,000 Pakistanis have affirmed to celebrate the day
> Here’s the link: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=214636641903028

Positive criticism in healthy manner is always welcomed and it is the essence of being morally responsible that instead of launching violent protests and campaigns, which end up with utter loss of public but nothing else, things like this should better be adopted than going uncivilized.

But another factor that should be kept in mind that we are supposed to remain in limits here. With great power, comes great responsibility.

And we have the power of social media but using it the right way can bring the awareness, changes and the positivism, we all Pakistanis urge for.

A month after the launch of a Facebook group calling for a third Intifada, Minister of Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein sent a letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg Wednesday, demanding that the page calling a Palestinian uprising be shut down immediately.

The Facebook group was launched less than a month ago with the number of members growing dramatically, with nearly 250,000 people expressing support for launching a third Intifada on May 15, marked by Arabs as Nakba Day – a day where Palestinians mark the “catastrophe of Israel’s establishment.”

In his letter, Edelstein stressed that he wasn’t writing in his official capacity but as someone who shares the values of freedom of expression, and said he believed that there must be a discernable difference between freedom of expression and freedom to incite.

The founders of the group hope that a popular uprising like those that broke out in the Arab world would also bring about the downfall of the State of Israel, with the help of groups supporters in the Palestinian Authority and countries bordering on Israel.

Muslim boycott

The group’s doctrines include a call for simultaneous protests on the Jordanian, Egyptian and Syrian borders while Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza will launch attacks on Israeli settlements. Moreover, they ask for “the help of our brothers in Lebanon” who will assist by raining missiles down on Israel.

Since its launch, the Facebook group has received a great deal of coverage in the Palestinian and Arab media. Its founders, who remain anonymous, warned Facebook that shutting down their page would lead the Muslim world to boycott Facebook.

It seems that the threat did little to impress the site managers as one of the group’s founders who calls himself “Son of Palestine” reported calls for violence.

Son of Palestine also accused Facebook’s management team of forging the number of supporters the group has, claiming that the number is much higher than 250,000.

When the group of Pakistani Muslims starts the boycott protest against facebook through changing their profile picture, it was expected that Muslims around the world who use facebook and Muslim media will join hands with them to remove the hate page from the facebook.

But the result was totally unexpected. Because the Muslim countries other than Pakistan have neither blocked facebook nor Media (Specially Pakistani) show anything related to but response against those who want to boycott facebook in the name of education. Especially GEo TV who is also known as “JEW TV” show different report in their show “Ajj Kamran Khan Kay Sath” that due to banned of facebook and youtube, Pakistan cut off from the world and the banned also effecting students education.

I want to ask them that how did you get education through facebook and youtube? facebook and youtube are two social net working and social media sites respectively where people login for social networking. “May be” “some” Pakistani use youtube as education purpose (i don’t think so, but let us suppose) but how did they get education through facebook? May be they learn some thing for their exams by helping their neighbors in Farmville? Huh!!

Any ways, I thanked Pakistani Gov and specially PTA who blocked facebook and helped those including me who want to remove the hate page from facebook.

But its hurting me because the other Muslim countries has not show any response about this event and not a single news was published about it. And that is the end where boycott against facebook is useless. Because only 1% of facebook traffic came from Pakistan, its around 2.2 millions, and this little amount of people boycott will never effect profit of facebook.

So here are the main reasons, which makes protest against facebook failed?

Pakistani Media does not support the boycott.

Pakistani Media does not spread the public view about facebook after banned

Muslim country does not promote boycott against facebook.

The whole Muslim Ummah once against failed to be united.

The banned on facebook is just temporary.

Legal action should be taken against facebook.

No IT expert help to make make boycott successful.

International media have not show any statement from the other side, facebook.

So, next time when some one stand for religion should remember that only rely on your own strength rather than expecting help from any one.

According to the report, Islamic Lawyers Movement filed the petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) through Chaudhry Zulfiqar advocate, who stated that under the law no practice against Islam could be allowed in the country.

He told the court that the website, having various features against the injunctions of Islam, is banned in various countries.

On Tuesday, LHC issued notice to the Ministry of Communication to submit its reply.

Ministry of Communication told that the link of blasphemous caricatures has been blocked, adding that the website can not be completely banned.

Facebook users in Pakistan, however, told AFP they could still access the site after the ban was imposed on Wednesday.

Officials with the Pakistani government told the court they had already blocked Facebook pages relating to the competition, but the lawyers group argued that no part of a site can be banned unless the entire site is blocked.

Pakistan has 45 million Facebook users, according to lawyers.

The Facebook page for “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” had just over 40,000 supporters while the opposing “Against Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” had more than 53,000.

Millions of Muslims specially who are member of facebook start protest against facebook by changing their profile picture into a banner which show to boycott facebook on 20th May 2010.

Every body Draw Mohammed Day is an Event in which Jews and non- muslims are going to draw a sketch of Hazrat Muhammad PBUH (naozubillah) The Event is going to be held on 20th Of May 2010.

You can report about this event from here

The bad thing is that after thousands of reporting against this event facebook not yet closed or removed this event. Because one of facebook employee is admin of this event.

So, here i am going to tell you how could you damage facebook throug boycott.

Don’t click any ad you see on the right side of each facebook page. Because every time you click on the add facebook get money for this through advertiser.

Don’t buy anything from facebook like some people buy gift credits to send birthday wishes.

Many of us play farmville and other game by same company Zynga. Try to stop playing this game. If you can’t then dont buy any thing like XP or coins through credit card. Because facebook earn commision on each sale

Upload as much as videos and picture (prefered to upload Islamic stuff) through this we can make heavy their datacenter and they will need to purchase new one (which will be too expensive)

Don’t use facebook ad to promote your business. Use google adword for this. because this is the main source of facebook to earn money

Don’t invite your friends and family members to facebook.

Share link of this post with as much as people you can, so every person become part of this protest against facebook
